Spotted: Our bedrooms and bathrooms are full of products packaged in single-use plastic containers, with around 120 billion pieces of beauty packaging thrown away around the world every year. UK startup Rollr wants to help reduce that figure, with a sustainable, refillable deodorant offering.
Rollr has developed a refillable roll-on deodorant, with a frictionless roller mechanism in a stylish bottle. The deodorant itself comes as a concentrate that fits inside an envelope, significantly reducing packaging waste and shipping weight. Users then mix the concentrate with water in the bottle to create a quick-drying deodorant.
The formula is free of parabens, artificial fragrances, propylene glycol, synthetic aluminium compounds, and common irritants like bicarbonate of soda and cornstarch. It also contains astringents to tighten pores and pre and probiotics to target the source of odours.
The organic scents Rollr uses are designed for health and well-being. For example, Rollr claims its clary sage scent reduces cortisol levels, its mandarin relaxes the nervous system, and the vetiver scent helps keep users focused, calm, and balanced.
Even the reusable bottles are unique. Designed to be long-lasting, Rollr uses thick, dark, faceted glass and rollerballs made from steel or minerals such as rose quartz, blue dumortierite, or green aventurine.
Rollr was selected to be part of the Blue Earth Summit’s 2024 BE100 accelerator, and was a runner-up at the Summit’s BE100 final last month.
