A fire that destroyed a barn near Kinburn on Monday began when a car in the barn caught fire, Ottawa Fire Services said.
Firefighters were called to a farm on Kinburn Side Road just northeast of the village shortly after 1:15 p.m. when a 911 caller reported that a car had caught fire and the barn contained fuel and other combustibles.
The barn was filled with antique carriages and sleds, the fire service said. There were no animals in the barn and all the people had exited safely.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from all four sides of the barn. An aerial ladder was set up to attack the fire from above. There are no fire hydrants in the area, so firefighters used tanker trunks to shuttle water from the Carp River to the scene.
The barn began to collapse at 2:12 p.m. The fire was declared under control at 4:08 p.m.
An excavator was called to the scene to extinguish hot spots, and a fire investigator was dispatched to the scene.
