ATOM Offers Free Calls and SMS to Support Flood-Affected Customers in Various Regions of Myanmar | Myanmar Tech Press

In response to the recent devastation caused by floods and landslides in Myanmar, ATOM is offering 500 free minutes of voice calls and 500 SMS to its customers in flood-affected areas. The free services will be available for five days, from 14 to 18 September 2024, for calls and SMS between ATOM customers, helping them stay connected with loved ones and access critical support during this challenging time.

The townships and areas where ATOM customers will receive free services include:

  • Shan State: Kalaw, Tachileik, Kengtung
  • Magway Region: Salin, Pwintbyu
  • Mandalay Region: Yamethin, Wundwin, Myittha, Pyawbe, Kyaukse
  • Nay Pyi Taw: Tatkon, Pyimana, Pobbathiri, Zeyathiri

This support is aimed at assisting ATOM customers in maintaining communication as they cope with the aftermath of torrential rains brought by Typhoon Yagi, which has resulted in the displacement of thousands and significant loss of life across the country.

In addition to communication support, ATOM has also provided a monetary contribution to SiGauk Monastic School (ဇီးကောက်ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးကျောင်း) in Pyinmana Township, Nay Pyi Taw, which is providing essential relief items such as food, medical and health-related supplies to flood victims in the area.

“We understand the critical importance of staying connected during times of crisis. By providing free calls and SMS to our affected customers, we hope it will help them stay informed, connected, and supported. We will continue to support communities in Myanmar during times of crisis, providing both communication services and humanitarian assistance,” said Mr. Ahmad Abdallah, Chief Executive Officer of ATOM.

ATOM’s community support activities are conducted under the banner of “ATOM WITH THE HEART,” focusing on three pillars: Advancing Life & Education, Digitalisation of Education & Health, and Humanitarian Care & Support. Since June 2022, ATOM has contributed nearly MMK 4 billion to various causes aligned with these pillars, positively impacting the lives of over 500,000 individuals across Myanmar.

ATOM’s relief efforts to support the flood-affected communities align with its corporate responsibility pillar of Humanitarian Care & Assistance, which focuses on supporting communities in times of crisis. On 12 August 2024, ATOM announced the delivery of essential items valued at MMK 100 million (100,000,000 Kyats) to provide immediate relief to thousands of people in Yangon and Bago regions, and Hpa-An, the capital of Kayin State, who were affected by severe flooding. These relief packages were distributed to over 2,000 households, benefiting over 10,000 flood victims.
