The Australian Government app myGovID will soon change its name to myID.
The myGov app allows users to access many government services, including Centrelink, ATO and Medicare, in one place.
The new look and name change “aims to reduce the ongoing confusion between the myGovID app and myGov” and will come into effect in mid-November.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- There will be no change to the app’s functionality and users will not have to do anything to continue using the app.
- There is no need to set up a new myID
- Login details, including email address and password, will remain the same.
- Your identity strength will also not change, meaning you will not have to provide any extra details or documents to confirm who you are.
- If you have the myGovID app, it will automatically update to my ID.
- Services will continue to be available throughout the change.
- When the change happens, you may see both myID and myGovID.
The Government has warned Australians to be very vigilant during this time to avoid getting scammed.
Scammers can pose as officials from myGovID or make fake websites to look like myGovID.
It is important to only download the app from official app stores.
