SpaceX has decided to join the ongoing Black Friday sales by offering a rare discount for the company’s Starlink Mini dish to US customers.
On Wednesday, the official Starlink.com site began selling the Mini dish for $449, or a $150 discount from the normal price. Best Buy is also offering the discount.
It’s the first time SpaceX has slashed the US price for the Mini dish, which launched earlier this year as a portable way to receive satellite internet access. The dish is about the size of a laptop and small enough to fit in a backpack. Although slower than the standard Starlink dish, the Mini can still deliver download rates at 100Mbps or higher, according to early users.

The dish’s portability makes it ideal for camping trips and as a backup internet service. But in the US, SpaceX decided to sell the product at $599 to prevent a surge of customers from snatching it up, which could further strain Starlink’s network capacity in the country. Elsewhere, SpaceX has been selling the Mini dish for $199 and even $165, citing abundant network capacity.

On the downside, the Mini dish can only be ordered in the US through the Starlink “Roam” plan, rather than the more affordable residential tier, which limits the Starlink service in one location. The Roam plan lets the subscriber use the Starlink dish on the go, across the country, and even internationally. But you’ll need to pay $165 per month.

Mini dish buyers can also subscribe to the cheaper $50 per month plan. However, it caps your monthly data limit to 50GB unless you pay up for additional data.
If you recently ordered the Mini dish before Wednesday’s discount, SpaceX notes you can “reach out to Starlink Customer Support” about potentially receiving a partial refund.
