LDA Engineering has earned three Grand Awards and an Honor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Tennessee (ACEC) for four infrastructure improvement projects across Tennessee, including two water projects in Pigeon Forge, a pedestrian improvement project in Nashville and a comprehensive pump station assessment for the Town of Collierville.
The civil engineering firm received the honors at the Engineering Excellence Awards Gala in Nashville on Nov. 6.
“It’s always gratifying to have our work recognized,” said Jason Brooks, CEO of LDA Engineering. “We are really proud of these projects, all of which make significant improvements to community infrastructure and help lay the groundwork for sustainable growth.”
The following projects received Grand Awards:
- Pigeon Forge Water Reuse System
LDA Engineering’s reuse system and storage tank project expanded the Pigeon Forge reuse water system to repurpose treated wastewater for large-scale irrigation consumers and conserve potable water for essential uses like drinking and sanitation. This reduces dependence on limited freshwater and provides sustainable irrigation supply for key tourism facilities like Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and the Gatlinburg Golf Course without placing additional pressure on the city’s water resources.
- Pigeon Forge Raw Water Intake
The Pigeon Forge raw line improvement project addressed immediate water supply challenges with the construction of approximately 14 miles of new 24-inch pipeline, and the strategic installation of a parallel line to enhance capacity and reliability. LDA used innovative surveying technologies, including aerial LiDAR, bathymetric mapping, and Subsurface Utility Engineering to develop a precise and comprehensive picture of above-ground terrain and underwater features for meticulous planning and implementation.
- Craighead Street Pedestrian Improvements
LDA Engineering’s Craighead Avenue sidewalk project improved safety and pedestrian access through infrastructure enhancements around Geodis Park and the Nashville Fairgrounds. LDA established a direct connection between Nolensville Pike and 8th Avenue and linked surrounding neighborhoods to provide safer access for pedestrians in what has historically been a High Injury Network. A direct and accessible route to public transportation and a new dedicated ride-share area are now in place.
Engineers implemented meticulous planning for the phased management, design and construction to improve sidewalks and safety surrounding the fairgrounds without impeding scheduled events.
The following project received an Honor Award:
- Collierville Pump Stations Rehabilitation Assessment
The LDA team delivered a wholistic approach to evaluate the town’s 23 sewer pump stations of varying ages, conditions and capacities and provide rehabilitation recommendations. LDA developed a customized web application to complete condition assessments and integrate with Collierville’s Geographic Information System (GIS). The firm identified several challenges including adverse electrical configurations and aging equipment, then developed a plan to upgrade the stations to mitigate risk, improve system performance and create more accessibility for replacement parts for equipment.
LDA also recently won the 2024 Mark Miller Tennessee Public Works Project of the Year award for the Pigeon Forge Reuse Project. That honor recognizes a project that epitomizes outstanding planning, construction and management and was presented at the Tennessee Chapter of American Public Works Association (TCAPWA) annual conference in Chattanooga on Oct. 30.
