True to his word, Paco de la Torre, the mayor of Malaga, received Mansour, the Hero of Sostoa, to thank the young asylum seeker in person.

The mayor wanted to thank the young, 19-year-old refugee in person for his valiant deed during the floods in Malaga. Walking home from work, the women had been surprised by the rising floodwaters and had fallen into a state of shock. Paralysed with fear, she was unable to move from the spot.

Around four in the afternoon on Wednesday, November 13, in the middle of the DANA red alert, Mansour was in his room watching out through his apartment window. The whole of Malaga had practically self-confined itself after the tragedy in Valencia.

Mansour picked woman up in his arms and carried her to safety

Without a second thought, he went down to the street to see if he could help people. Outside the Alaska petrol station, he spotted a woman as still as a statue just standing there trembling. Without hesitation, he waded out to her, asked if he could help her, and on receiving no reply, picked her up in his arms and carried her to safety. Now Mansour has been fittingly dubbed the Hero of Sostoa because the incident occurred in Calle Heroe de Sostoa.

The mayor of Malaga, so impressed with the young man from Guinea-Conakry, sent a phone message out to him commending him for his bravery and inviting him to the town hall.
