1 Dead, Police Officers Among 3 Injured In Roxbury Dog Attack

ROXBURY, MA — A woman is dead after she was attacked by her dog in Roxbury on Monday, according to authorities and reports. Three others, including two police officers, were also injured in the attack.

During a news conference Monday, Boston police said officers responded to a home on Dennison Street just before 4:30 p.m. after receiving a call about a dog attack. When officers arrived, police said they found two people — a woman and a man — suffering from injuries consistent with a dog attack.

While police were aiding the victims, authorities said the dog returned and attacked two of the responding officers. One of the officers fired their gun and struck the dog, police said.

Investigators said the first attack likely happened inside the home while the second attack happened outside. Police said they believe the two victims were the dog’s owners.

The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died, according to NBC Boston and Boston.com reports. The man was also hospitalized with serious injuries, police said.

Both police officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment, authorities said.

The dog involved in the attack survived and was taken from the home by Boston Animal Control, police said. Three additional dogs were also removed from the home.

Police said parallel investigations into the incident are underway. The homicide unit is investigating due to the severity of the injuries involved and will work alongside the department’s Firearm Discharge Investigations Team.
