This 1964 Volkswagen Type 2 double cab pickup was acquired out of South Carolina by the seller in 2017 and was used as a shop truck for the next six years before undergoing a refurbishment that was completed in June 2024. Work included a repaint and replacement of the front floor pans and doglegs along with installing front disc brakes and rack-and-pinion steering, reupholstering the interior in gray vinyl, and rebuilding the flat-four and increasing displacement to 1,835cc. It is finished in Turquoise Green and equipped with a four-speed manual transaxle, a fold-down tailgate and bed sides, a heater, safari-style front windows, cream-finished bumpers with overriders, dual carburetors, Magnaspark II ignition, and 15″ steel wheels with hubcaps. This Type 2 pickup is now offered with a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.
The double cab body was factory-finished in Turquoise Green (L380) and was repainted as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. Exterior details include a drop-down tailgate and bed sides, wood bed runners, safari-style front windows, and cream-finished bumpers with overriders.
The 15″ cream-painted steel wheels wear VW-branded hubcaps and are mounted with 195/70 Continental VancoFourSeason tires. Front disc brakes and a rack-and-pinion steering system from Creative Engineering were installed during the refurbishment and the front crossbeam was refinished.
The cabin houses two rows of seating that were reupholstered in gray vinyl with white piping as part of the refurbishment. Color-keyed trim covers the door panels, black rubber mats line the floors, and additional appointments include a wood headliner, a heater, and a prong-style fusebox.
A two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a body-color metal dashboard housing a fuel level gauge and an 80-mph speedometer. The five-digit odometer shows 59k miles, around 5k of which have been added by the seller.
The flat-four was rebuilt during the refurbishment and fitted with 1,835cc pistons and cylinders in addition to a CB Performance Magnaspark II ignition system, dual 40mm carburetors, a 12-volt alternator, a polished distributor body, upgraded valves, and a replacement wiring harness.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transaxle. The front floor pans and doglegs were replaced and the cargo floor was patched during the refurbishment. An A1 Performance exhaust system with headers was also installed.
