In Netflix’s first live-streamed professional boxing event, 60 million households tuned in to watch Jake Paul face Mike Tyson, according to Netflix.
The 27-year-old Paul defeated 58-year-old Tyson via unanimous decision on Friday night.
With the record-breaking viewership numbers, Netflix experienced some buffering issues that kept the audience on edge—as the streaming giant acknowledged in a post on social media.
The co-main event featuring Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano attracted nearly 50 million households, making it the most-watched professional women’s sporting event in U.S. history.
Taylor secured the win by unanimous decision over Serrano in one of the more controversial boxing victories of the year.
The two headliners sparked excitement among viewers for what Netflix has in store for the future, provided they can resolve some technical issues.
Netflix will broadcast the NFL’s Christmas Day games, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Houston Texans taking on the Baltimore Ravens.
WWE’s Monday Night Raw will also begin broadcasting on Netflix in January of 2025.
