Netherlands vs Hungary prediction, odds & betting tips – 16/11/2024

The Netherlands and Hungary are tied on five points apiece from their opening four games in Group 3 of the Nations League A, so there is plenty to play for this weekend when the pair lock horns in Amsterdam.

Netherlands vs Hungary prediction: Goals in this game for both teams?

Key Stats

  • Both teams have scored in five of the Netherlands’ last six matches.
  • Over 2.5 goals have been produced in six of the last seven encounters between the Netherlands and Hungary.
  • Four of the hosts’ last six matches have witnessed at least three goals.

Correct score prediction: Netherlands 2-1 Hungary

The Netherlands have won six of their last seven head-to-heads with Hungary and both teams have scored in five of those Dutch victories. Saturday’s hosts haven’t kept a single clean sheet in their last six attempts and Hungary have only conceded more than two goals in one of their last six outings, which is why we’ve backed a correct score prediction of 2-1 in favour of the Dutch.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Odds stacked against the visitors

  • HOME: 2/5 (1.40) – 71.4%
  • DRAW: 17/4 (5.25) – 19%

The Netherlands are the expected winner of this game with a probability of 71.4% but we are expecting a close and competitive 90 minutes between the pair.

Most recent H2Hs: The Netherlands dominate

Saturday’s hosts have picked up four wins and a draw from their last five games against Hungary but the last meeting between the two countries in October ended in a stalemate.

Netherlands preview: Hit and miss of late

The Netherlands aren’t in the best of form heading into this game having won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six fixtures.

Last month, the Dutch claimed a 1-1 draw in Hungary and narrowly lost in Germany 1-0 so will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they return home this weekend.

Nathan Ake, Micky van de Ven, Xavi Simons, Georginio Wijnaldum, Marten de Roon, Memphis Depay and Steven Bergwijn have not been called up to the latest Netherlands squad for one reason or another.

Predicted lineup: Verbruggen (GK), de Vrij, Dumfries, van Dijk, de Ligt, J. Timber, Reijnders, Gravenberch, de Jong, Gakpo & Malen

Hungary preview: Unbeaten in last three

Hungary haven’t lost any of their last three Nations League games since that 5-0 thrashing in Germany.

A goalless draw at home to Bosnia & Herzegovina wasn’t a great result but the following 1-1 draw against the Netherlands and the 2-0 win in Bosnia last month have put Hungary right back in with a chance of progressing through to the knockout stage.

Péter Gulacsi, Martin Adam, Daniel Gazdag and Krisztofer Horvath will miss out on the final two group games in this Season’s Nations League due to injury.

Predicted lineup: Dibusz (GK), Fiola, Botka, Orban, A. Nagy, Bolla, Szoboszlai, Schafer, Nikitscher, Sallai & Varga

Player to watch: Denzel Dumfries

Inter Milan and Netherlands full-back Denzel Dumfries joint-top scores for his country in this season’s Nations League A with two goals and we’re backing the 28-year-old to put in another impressive performance this weekend.

Dumfries is a flying full-back who likes to play on the front foot and often finds himself in goalscoring positions which is backed up by his eight goals in 62 caps for the Netherlands and the 12 league goals he has scored since moving to Inter Milan in 2021.

The Netherlands’ full-back has been in great form

We wouldn’t be surprised to see Dumfries claim another goal involvement this weekend but we also expect the full-back to be busy at both ends of the pitch as Hungary have some very good attacking players.
