Narra, Rizal recognized with Seal of Good Local Governance

Narra and Rizal have emerged as the only towns in Palawan among the 23 local government units to earn the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) for 2024, according to the Department of Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) official list released on November 14.

Of the 71 local government units in MIMAROPA region assessed by DILG, only 17 were awarded the SGLG this year.

Rizal Mayor Norman Ong expressed that the SGLG award serves as proof to his town’s clean and effective management, particularly in financial administration and the implementation of beneficial programs for residents.

He added that this first-time recognition will encourage the local government to uphold its governance standards for future SGLG assessments, including the upcoming evaluation in 2025.

Meanwhile, Narra received the SGLG for the sixth time. Mayor Gerandy Danao extended his gratitude to the department heads and various partners of LGU Narra for their contribution to the SGLG assessment.

The Narra local government added that the award reflects their commitment to continuously improve in various aspects of governance.

Under Republic Act 11292, the SGLG aims to recognize LGUs that exhibit excellence and integrity in governance. It also encourages LGUs to improve performance and address larger challenges, requiring them to meet ten criteria, including financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, health compliance, sustainable education, business-friendliness, peace and order, environmental management, tourism and heritage, culture and arts, and youth development.
