Signal No. 3 up in Catanduanes, where Pepito seen to make landfall


MANILA, Philippines — State meteorologists hosted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3 over parts of Catanduanes where Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-yi) is expected to make landfall.

As of 2:00 a.m. Saturday, Pepito was last spotted 260 kilometers (km) east northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, or 280 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour (kph) with gustiness of up to 190 kph.

In addition to the towns of Gigmoto, Baras, Bato, and San Miguel in Catanduanes, Palapag and Laoang in Eastern Samar are also under TCWS No. 3.

Areas under TCWS No. 3  will see 89 to 117 kph wind speed, causing moderate to significant threat to life and property.

Pepito is forecast to make landfall in Catanduanes on Saturday evening or early Sunday morning.

Furthermore, the following areas are under TCWS No. 2, where winds of greater than 62 kph and up to 88 kph may be expected in at least 24 hours, causing minor to moderate impacts to life and property:

Luzon

  • Catanduanes: The rest of the province.
  • Camarines Sur: Eastern and central portions, including Caramoan, Siruma, Tinambac, Lagonoy, Garchitorena, and nearby towns.
  • Camarines Norte: Eastern portions such as Mercedes, Basud, Daet, and nearby municipalities.
  • Albay
  • Sorsogon

Visayas

  • Eastern Samar: Northern areas like Arteche, Oras, and San Policarpo.
  • Samar: Northeastern portion, including San Jose de Buan and Matuguinao.
  • Northern Samar: Remaining areas of the province.

Meanwhile, these areas are under TCWS No. 1, where wind speeds of 39 to 61 kph may pose a minimal to minor threat to life and property.

Luzon

  • Camarines Norte: The rest of the province.
  • Camarines Sur: The remaining areas.
  • Marinduque
  • Romblon: Eastern portions including Cajidiocan, San Fernando, and Magdiwang.
  • Quezon: Including Polillo Islands.
  • Laguna
  • Cavite: Eastern and central areas, such as Mendez, General Trias, and Tagaytay City.
  • Batangas: Northern and eastern portions like Malvar, Cuenca, and Talisay.
  • Rizal
  • Metro Manila
  • Aurora
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Pampanga
  • Tarlac
  • Bulacan
  • Quirino
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Isabela
  • Pangasinan: Eastern areas including Alcala, Bayambang, and Rosales.

  • Dinagat Islands: Northern portion, including Loreto and Tubajon.
