The USMNT had their first competitive match under Mauricio Pochettino and it was a CONCACAF road test as well as the USMNT opened a home and away matchup against Jamaica in Kingston. The US opened the scoring just five minutes into the game as Ricardo Pepi finished a sweet through ball from Christian Pulisic. Jamaica had a great opportunity to tie the game under ten minutes later when Matt Turner gave up a penalty when Mark McKenzie’s weak challenge on Shamar Nicholson allowed him to get through on goal and Turner proceeded to bring him down with a challenge that was just late. However, Turner stood strong with a fantastic save to keep the US in the lead and after another 75’ the game would end 1-0 to the USMNT’s advantage heading back to home soil. Neither team was particularly dominant in the match and Jamaica particularly struggled after going down a man when Mason Holgate picked up his second yellow card of the match and was sent off with 5’ minutes left in regulation.
