NEW HOPE, PA — An electrical problem appears to have caused a fire that damaged the historic Logan Inn and sent heavy smoke through the building Tuesday evening.
At 6:18 p.m., New Hope Eagle Fire Company and its mutual aid partners were dispatched by Bucks County Communications to Ferry and Main for a reported building fire. Callers were reporting heavy smoke and fire visible from the roof of the popular New Hope hotel, restaurant, and bar.
The Eagle Fire Company’s Quint 46 responded quickly, followed by Engine 46. Upon arrival, a working fire was evident and an evacuation of the building was already underway, fire officials said.

At the fire scene, crews were met by an employee who advised that someone might be trapped in a third-floor guestroom. Firefighters advanced a hand line to the third floor and the door to the room was forced open, revealing a heavy smoke condition and water flowing from an activated sprinkler head.
A search of the room proved negative, but indicated that the fire was burning between the ceiling of the room and the roof, fire officials said.

Searches were also initiated on all guest rooms due to the heavy smoke condition to ensure the building was clear of occupants.
Additional personnel went to the roof with a hand line and extinguished an area of burning roofing and insulation. Crews then worked for about 90 minutes to ensure that the fire was extinguished and to remove smoke from the building with numerous fans.
There were no reported injuries.
The Bucks County Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire’s origin to be electrical and not suspicious.
