The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MIMAROPA recently brought the Empowerment and Reaffirmation of Paternal Abilities (ERPAT) program to Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries, starting with 25 fathers from Narra in the first training batch held from November 6-8, 2024.
ERPAT, a DSWD strategy aimed at empowering fathers within the family and community, focuses on responsible fatherhood, family relations, child development, and values formation.
“ERPAT seeks to equip fathers with skills and knowledge through workshops and group discussions, encouraging them to actively engage in family life and serve as positive role models in their communities,” explained 4Ps Palawan Provincial Link, Faith Crispino.
The program includes hands-on activities and open discussions, creating a support network of fathers who share experiences and learn together. Topics cover various aspects of family dynamics, such as financial management and parenting strategies.
“This program is a significant step toward strengthening the role of fathers in our families and communities. We want them to feel empowered, responsible, and appreciated in their roles,” said Narra Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Maria Linda Dubla.
Aside from the spiritual session, topics on promoting a drug-free home, HIV prevention, and positive discipline were discussed.
“Marami sa mga tatay dito ay minsan natatakot humarap sa mga responsibilidad sa pamilya dahil sa kakulangan sa kaalaman. Sa ERPAT, natututo sila, nagkakaroon ng kumpiyansa, at nakikita ang halaga ng kanilang papel bilang ama,” Dubla added.
The DSWD has committed to expanding ERPAT training to more Palawan localities next year.
The series of ERPAT training sessions, funded by local government units, will also be conducted in the towns of Cuyo and Magsaysay this November, with participation from local officials and 4Ps fathers.
