Signal’s end-to-end encrypted platform is introducing new features to improve its group calls.
Previously, Signal users had to create a group chat to start a group call. Now, you only have to create a link and share it with invitees to start a call. Up to 50 people can now be in a group call—10 more than the previous maximum.
By default, participants will require admin approval. When they click on the link, a request to join the call will be sent to the admin. Admins can disable this hurdle if desired, or remove people from calls and block them to deny re-entry.
For recurring meetings, admins can rename the call and use the same link every day. To create a call link on the mobile app, go to Calls > Create a Call Link and then add necessary inputs and share the link. The Calls tab will also keep a history of all previous conversations.

Signal is also adding a few other features—like those found on video conferencing apps like Zoom and Meet—to modernize its group calling. The raise-hand button lets those who wish to speak press the button to join a waiting list.
The app is also getting emoji reactions for quick feedback and refreshed call buttons to turn off speakers and microphones. On desktop, users can choose to view the participants in grid, sidebar, or speaker views.

Signal is primarily known for its privacy-forward features, but Zoom users can also enable end-to-end encryption via the Zoom web portal if desired.
To try out the new Signal features, you can download the latest version of the app on iOS, Android, or desktop.
