Jersey City Free Public Library (JCFPL) proudly shares that Devon Allan, Emerging Technologies Librarian at Communipaw Branch Library, has been selected for the New Jersey Library Association Emerging Leaders Program (NJLA).
The Emerging Leaders Program is open to early career librarians. As part of the program presenters with various backgrounds within the NJ library community, and beyond will lead discussions and interactive sessions that will encourage attendees to learn about leadership, explore their own leadership style while networking with other emerging leaders.
Devon shares their excitement for the Program, “Through the Emerging Leaders program, I hope to enhance my leadership abilities by learning from seasoned professionals within the New Jersey library community. I am eager to explore new strategies for managing teams, improving community outreach, and advancing equity in library services, while also contributing my own unique perspectives as a queer librarian and advocate for technology-driven library innovations. I look forward to the opportunity to grow alongside a cohort of emerging leaders who share a commitment to shaping the future of libraries.”
Devon became a librarian because they believe in the power of libraries to foster community, promote equity, and provide access to knowledge for all. Growing up, libraries were a safe and welcoming space to explore new ideas, learn about different perspectives, and connect with people who shared their curiosity. As a librarian Devon is dedicated to creating those spaces for others with a focus on the intersection of technology and library services.
