440-Powered 1971 Plymouth Barracuda Coupe


This 1971 Plymouth Barracuda coupe was acquired by the seller in 2018, and a subsequent refurbishment that was completed in 2021 involved installing a 440ci V8 and a 727 TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission as well as repainting the car in purple over black upholstery. Features include ’Cuda badging, billboard-style “440” graphics, a rear wing, U.S. Mags 17″ wheels, Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes, an Edelbrock carburetor, an aluminum radiator, Vintage Air climate control, a center console, a 7″ touchscreen infotainment system, aftermarket gauges, and keyless entry. Previously offered on BaT in October 2024, this modified Barracuda is now offered with a car cover and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The car has been repainted in purple, and black billboard-style “440” graphics have been added to the sides. Other equipment includes ’Cuda badging, quad headlights, fender-mounted turn-signal monitors, dual side mirrors, chrome bumpers and trim, a black rear wing, a black tail panel, and dual exhaust outlets that protrude through the rear fascia.

U.S. Mags 17″ wheels are mounted with Toyo Extensa HPII tires measuring 225/50 at the front and 255/45 out back. Braking is handled by hydro-boosted Wilwood discs at all four corners, and the steering is power-assisted.

The front bucket seats and rear bench have been retrimmed in black upholstery. Interior appointments include a center console, a Slap Stik shifter, Vintage Air climate control, a 7″ touchscreen infotainment system, Barracuda and ’Cuda interior badging, and three-point front seatbelts. Sound-deadening material has been applied beneath the black carpeting. The car is equipped with a Viper alarm and keyless entry controlled by a remote fob.

A three-spoke steering wheel frames aftermarket instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer with an inset 8k-rpm tachometer as well as auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, voltage, and oil pressure. The digital odometer shows 500 miles, which is said to reflect the distance accumulated since completion of the build; true chassis mileage is unknown.

The 440ci V8 was rebuilt and installed in 2019, and it is augmented by an Edelbrock Performer 750-cfm four-barrel carburetor, a Dodge- and Mopar-branded intake manifold, an MSD coil, a four-row aluminum radiator, and wrapped exhaust headers. The alternator, starter, and other accessories were replaced during the refurbishment. The car’s chassis number indicates that it was originally powered by a 318ci V8. A trim tag is no longer present in the engine bay.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission that was replaced during the refurbishment. An 8¾” rear axle with a limited-slip differential is noted to have been installed.
