Updates on potential USMNT youth dual nationals

One of the strengths in recent years of the USMNT has been attracting dual nationals to represent the United States. Antonee Robinson, Sergino Dest, and Yunus Musah have become valuable players for the Stars and Stripes and could have represented other nations. Mauricio Pochettino is a big name coach and representing the USA is attractive for players wanting to have a connection with family ties to the States. He is, or should be, targeting some names here whether they represent the senior or youth squads.

News this week broke that goalkeeper prospect Aidan Stokes is heading to a callup with the England U-17s.

Staying in MLS, Diego Luna earned recognition as the 2024 MLS Young Player of the Year. He was called up for the January friendly against Slovenia this year but has not represented the USA in a competitive match. He had 20 goal contributions in the league this year and will be a player to watch at just 21 years old. As of this summer, Luna noted that he was open to filing a one-time switch with Mexico after not being called up for the Olympics by the USA.

Meanwhile, it is reported that Eintracht Frankfurt left-back Nathaniel Brown has been in contact with Mauricio Pochettino. The 21 year-old has played for the Germany U-21s and is the son of an American father and German mother. He’s made three appearances across all competitions for Frankfurt this year.

Another dual national was not called up for recent matches by a country that he’s been linked with.

Clearly, Arnie Chase is a player who is up and coming who needs to be on the radar of the USMNT. Chase has played 500 Bundesliga minutes and 200 in the Champions League for VfB Stuttgart. The USMNT defense has been somewhat iffy in recent matches and a talented young center back would be a welcome addition to the player pool.

Finally, Dutch-American dual national Austyn Jones who has played for the Netherlands U-17 team earned a call up with the USA U-17s. The forward represents PSV’s youth team and is joining the USA for the first time.
