Cash is king

Emma Lane has joined the crowded ranks of cash buyers this year, paying $8.5 million for the Manly penthouse atop the Ocean Royale building at North Steyne.

The four-bedroom pad was sold by developer Colleen Nichols, who in the 1990s developed the landmark building opposite the beach, and still owns the penthouse next door.

Lane’s purchase (in her name only) comes as she and Tom Lane, of the Oroton fashion accessories family, are also selling their Byron Bay luxury retreat Copperstone with hopes of more than $37 million, topping their $33.6 million North Coast record result of last year.

Earlier this year their Southern Highlands property Highground sold for $14.5 million to former V8 Supercars driver Paul Weel and his wife Emma.

Lane’s purchase marks a return to Manly after a lucrative five years since they sold their beachfront home on Little Manly Beach for $15.25 million to the corporate interests of US-based retirement village developer Andy Hoffman.
