Hong Kong driver arrested after vehicle hits pedestrian, leaving her unconscious


A Hongkonger has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after his vehicle struck a 19-year-old woman in Yuen Long, leaving her unconscious.

Police said the car hit the pedestrian as she was crossing On Lok Road in Yuen Long on Thursday at around 8.05am.

She was taken unconscious to Pok Oi Hospital in Yuen Long and later transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital, where she is currently undergoing surgery.

The driver, a 30-year-old man surnamed Au Yeung, did not suffer any injuries.

He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.

Anyone found guilty on first conviction of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm or death may face imprisonment of up to seven or 10 years, respectively, and disqualification from driving for a minimum of two or five years. Offenders can also face a maximum fine of HK$50,000 (US$6,430).
