Top-tier golf returns after a rare week off and several of Europe’s biggest names are out in force for the first leg of the two-event DP World Tour playoffs, the Abu Dhabi Championship at Yas Links.
Rory McIlroy tops the market at Yas while the PGA Tour returns to Mexico’s El Cardonal Golf Course for the World Wide Technology Championship.
Racing & Football Outlook golf tipster Joe Champion has taken a look at both events to put together an each-way double which pays out at 376/1.

Abu Dhabi Championship winner prediction – Shane Lowry at 12/1
Rory McIlroy hasn’t won for almost six months but the Northern Irishman is the favourite to prevail at the Abu Dhabi Championship, a Rolex Series tournament featuring the top 70 available players on the DP World Tour rankings.
Described as the Middle East’s first true links, Yas Links replaced Abu Dhabi Golf Club as host venue in 2022 when Thomas Pieters claimed the title at ten under par, then Victor Perez reached 18 under when winning in benign conditions last season.
Conditions look settled for the third Yas Links contest and while McIlroy and Tyrrell Hatton deserve respect, it’s fellow Ryder Cup man Shane Lowry who appears to be overpriced.
Lowry won this event at the previous venue in 2019 and while he’s yet to truly shine since the switch to Yas, there’s no doubting that he’s suited to a links venue which puts an emphasis on scrambling.
The Irishman was making his seasonal reappearance in the last two editions of this event, finishing 12th in 2022 and 28th last year. This time he returns having finished 13th, ninth, 12th, 12th, 13th and 12th in his last six worldwide starts.
That run of consistency suggests Lowry is not far away from winning again.
World Wide Technology Championship winner prediction – Matti Schmid at 28/1
The World Wide Technology Championship returns to El Cardonal in Los Cabos, Mexico, for the latest in the run of mostly low-key PGA Tour events which make up the Fall Series.
This is the second WWTC at El Cardonal, a wide-open coastal venue where precise approaches and a hot putter should equate to making the huge amount of birdies needed to win this week.
Cameron Young and in-form Max Greyserman lead the market but preference is for Germany’s Matti Schmid, who has finished 16th, fifth and third in his last three PGA Tour appearances.
Schmid has been striking his irons well recently and putting magnificently and it’s perhaps significant that he was tenth at the Puerto Rico Open and 11th at the Corales Puntacana Championship earlier in the season, both at venues featuring the paspalum grass he will encounter in Mexico this week.
