Matlock Season 1 Episode 5 Spoilers

Well, well, well, it looks like “Team You Three” is about to become “Team You Two” on Matlock Season 1 Episode 5. Then again, who could blame Olympia for taking to Matty so well?

That’s right, Madeline and Olympia are on the fast track to being “besties.” At least, that’s how things are looking for in the promo for “Claws.”

As Madeline Matlock’s plan progresses, Matty has a possible conflict of interest. How can she take down Jacobs & Moore while she and Olympia finish each other’s sentences?

We’ve seen how living a double life has caused a good amount of wear and tear on the titular character. Friending the boss is only going to complicate her plan even more.

The Correlation Between The Court Cases And Madeline Matlock’s Personal Life Is About As Subtle As A Shotgun

The road Madeline Matlock is on is winding and bumpy, with twists and turns around every corner. That sounds like a tagline for the show, but it’s very much the reality of the series.

Matlock Season 1 Episode 1 introduced the world to a brand-new Matlock with a sneaky twist at the end. It revealed a confident and capable Madeline Kingston.

However, since then, it has been one setback after another. Sure, Madeline has undoubtedly made some strides, but there were lessons every step of the way.

The story is as much about Madeline seeking justice for her daughter as it is the story of a grieving mother. Every case the show takes on speaks to an aspect of Matty’s life.

The first case involving the former sex worker was an obvious nod to Matty’s late daughter. Since then, each case has shed light and revealed more layers and sides to Madeline.

In Matlock Season 1 Episode 4, Matty deals with a fight between her and her husband while working on a case about a widower seeking justice for his late wife. The correlation is about as subtle as a shotgun.

At every turn, Madeline Matlock/Kingston is reminded that the reason we seek justice is not only to punish the guilty but also to help the helpless. Can Matty really see her plan through without hardening herself in the process?

Matty And Olympia Are On The Fast Track To Being “Besties,” Much To Matlock’s Dismay

It’s such a shame because it really seems like Olympia and Madeline are forming an actual bond. The two can be heard saying the same catchphrase simultaneously in the promo. This is both fantastic and terrible for Matlock.

On the one hand, rubbing elbows with the boss will give Matty plenty of room to stretch her plan. On the other hand, Matty doesn’t need a conflict of interest.

Then again, once the big mystery is solved, the show will need something to keep Madeline Matlock on board at Jacobs & Moore.

As I’ve mentioned in my article about the Matlock twists, the creator has said all will be revealed by the end of Matlock Season 1. So, someone is bound to figure out Matty’s secret, and my money is on Olympia.

Where Is Madeline Matlock Finding The Time To Play Matchmaker?

The official synopses for Matlock Season 1 Episode 5 reads: “A big class-action case against the prison system hits close to home for Matty when its lead plaintiff, jailed on drug charges, relapses.

“Also, Matty plays matchmaker with Sarah and a girl from IT.” What did I just say about the cases all correlating with Matty’s journey? Subtlety is clearly not the Matlock writers’ forte.

However, the most curious thing to take away from the episode description is the blatant focus on Leah Lewis’s Sarah. When in doubt, throw a love interest at the stiffest character.

In my review for Matlock Season 1 Episode 4, I asked, “Why did we need to know Sarah liked girls?” I didn’t understand why that was a pertinent detail. I guess this is the answer.

Don’t get me wrong — I am entirely on board with Sarah loosening up. You’ll notice from the promo that her tightly pulled ponytail is now lovely locks cascading down the sides of her stunning face.

Sarah is intense but has a big heart that she doesn’t know what to do with. It will be so fun watching her interact with a love interest. And the fact that Matty is the one trying to play matchmaker is just chef’s kiss so good.

If Senior Is The Culprit Madeline Matlock Is After, Then Our Favorite Septuagenarian Is Headed For A Bumpy And Redacted Road

Matty just can’t help but stir the pot wherever she goes, but as everyone knows, whatever is in Grandma’s pot will be delicious and heartwarming.

However, Madeline Matlock (Kathy Bates) is so much more than the sweet old lady persona she tries with all her effort to keep alive. But that Madeline Kingston is a wily woman.

The last frame of the Matlock Season 1 Episode 5 promo shows Matty holding what looks like a phone screen protector with a fingerprint on it.

Your guess is as good as mine as to what or who that could be about. In Matlock Season 1 Episode 5, we learned that Senior is at the top of Matty’s suspect list.

The print is likely from the head of Jacobs & Moore, which means Matty is already trying to dip into Senior’s files. However, I have a legitimate question for all viewers prone to mystery-solving.

If Senior is the one Matty is hunting for, do we really think he left anything for Madeline to find? Wouldn’t he have gone out of his way to cover his tracks?

He demonstrated his genius as a lawyer by manipulating the law with the “Texas Two Step.” It was dirty and underhanded but also clever and genius.

There was also a scene where employees were shredding documents. If Senior (Beau Bridges) covered up a case, Madeline should find next to nothing.

Despite her happy mood at the end of the promo, there’s a good chance that was a one-off moment because I can’t imagine things will get easier before they get more complicated.

However, now that Matty’s husband, Edwin, will be more hands-on with the investigation, Madeline might not be up a creek without a paddle.

Whatever the case is, Kathy Bates is a powerhouse of talent that delivers a perfect performance with every episode. Matlock is the television gold standard of brilliant talent and impeccable storytelling.
