Girl, 9, And Man Shot Near Uptown School, Police Say


UPTOWN — A 9-year-old girl and a 45-year-old man were wounded in a shooting Friday in Uptown, with the man running into a nearby elementary school to receive aid, according to authorities and media reports.

At around 3:30 p.m. Friday, the girl and man were standing near the sidewalk in the 5100 block of North Winthrop Avenue when shots rang out, police said.

A bullet grazed the girl’s calf, and she was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital in good condition, police said. The man was shot in his arm and he was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in good condition.

After being shot, the man ran into Goudy Technical Academy, 5120 N. Winthrop Ave., to receive help, Goudy’s principal told ABC7 Chicago. Teachers put pressure on his wound until authorities arrived, according to ABC7.

No arrests have been made, police said.
