Manchester United and Chelsea played out yet another draw in this Premier League encounter at Old Trafford. The result shouldn’t come as too much of a shock, with this fixture ending in a draw more often than any other fixture in Premier League history (27).
Man Utd opened the scoring after a drab, goalless first-half, through Bruno Fernandes.
Following a trip by Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez on Rasmus Højlund, Fernandes scored his first goal of the 2024-25 Premier League season with a 70th-minute penalty. The Portuguese had failed to score with each of his 30 shots in the competition before scoring his spot-kick at Old Trafford.
It was Fernandes’ 20th goal from the penalty spot in the Premier League, the joint-most in the competition since his debut in February 2020 alongside Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
The lead lasted just over four minutes, however, as Chelsea hit back via Moisés Caicedo. After failing to clear a corner, Manchester United conceded to a brilliant volley from the Ecuadorian midfielder from just outside the penalty area.
A point was enough to take Chelsea into fourth place and above Arsenal in the Premier League table, while Manchester United remain in the bottom half, in 13th place.
