The search for an 11-year-old boy swept into the sea on NSW’s Central Coast has entered its second day.
Authorities started searching for the boy after receiving reports he had been swept away while crossing The Entrance channel from the northern side with his father and three younger brothers, aged nine, seven and three, about 5.15pm on Sunday. Low tide at the beach was just before 5pm.
Police said the boy’s 43-year-old father had tried unsuccessfully to reach his son while witnesses watched the other children.
NSW Police’s Marine Area Command, local surf lifesavers, and rescue helicopters carried out a large-scale land, air and sea search, which was suspended at dark before resuming at The Entrance surf lifesaving club at 8am on Monday.
