JOOPSA assures commitment to effective public service delivery

The John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA) has given assurance of its continued commitment to the delivery of qualitative, effective, and efficient public service.

Given the assurance over the weekend, the Director General of the Academy, Precious Ajoonu, said the academy would “continue to cultivate a public service that is not only efficient but also accountable to the people.”

Ajoonu, who spoke at the JOOPSA Open House, organised for civil servants, policy experts, and students eager to learn more about the academy’s mission, commended the various teams involved in the running of the academy since its inception two years ago.

The Academy, according to her, was established by Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki’s administration to enhance professionalism and excellence in Edo State public service.

She noted that within two years, JOOPSA had become a rallying point for those seeking to make a difference in governance and administration across Nigeria.

Ajoonu emphasised that the Academy’s mission to empower civil servants with critical skills for today’s complex governance challenges remained intact as the institute would continue to develop a curriculum that would enhance the performances of public servants in Edo State and those who might come from outside the state to learn.

“Our vision is to cultivate a public service that is responsive, efficient, and accountable. We believe in the potential of every civil and public servant to lead with integrity and competence, and we are here to nurture that potential.” She reiterated.

Ajoonu announced upcoming opportunities and training programmes aimed at strengthening public administration across the country.

In a short lecture on strategic leadership, Professor Ibrahim Shaibu of the University of Benin urged participants to embrace critical thinking and commit to lifelong learning.

The university stressed that the ultimate aim of leaders is to bear the pains of the led and not to inflict pain on them

Attendees expressed a renewed commitment to public service, inspired by the Academy’s vision of a transformative, service-oriented governance model.

The academy boasted modern classrooms equipped with smart technology, a resource-rich library dedicated to policy and governance studies, and a state-of-the-art Government Innovation lab where trainees could learn how to use computers, code and innovate.

Highlights were the award ceremony where members of staff, civil and public servants, faculty, volunteers, and partners were recognised.
