Cafe de Coral has reverted to offering Anchor butter from New Zealand after changing its butter supplier led to customer dissatisfaction.
The controversy sparked after Cafe de Coral recently switched to a less popular brand “Treasure” for its breakfast butter.
The new product labeled as “slightly salted spreadable” on the box but missing the word “butter,” led to discussions about whether the company is trying to cut costs by using artificial butter.
The fast-food chain later clarified that the new product was sourced and manufactured in the Netherlands under its own brand. However a web user noticed the restaurant was serving Anchor butter yesterday.
But some believe Cafe de Coral is clearing its stock instead of switching back to the original butter.
”Hongkongers are very forgetful. The restaurant may change again later when no one is complaining,” one person said.
