Pizza friday!

This cheeseburger puff pastry pizza is fantastic. Browned ground beef, my classic house sauce, sharp cheddar, pickles, lettuce, tomato and more. Not to mention a super crisp crust.

We adore this.

It’s the second week in a row I’m sharing a cheeseburger-y recipe with you! Last week we talked about cheeseburger soup (oh the BEST) and today, we’re talking pizza.

My oh my.

My favorite thing on earth.

See, I have a weird obsession with cheeseburger flavored things that aren’t actual cheeseburgers. I just think it’s such a delicious combo of flavors and is (most importantly!) kid-approved.

And me-approved. Guess I’m a kid!

The reason this is so fabulous is because of one thing: you mix ketchup AND mustard in with the ground beef.

Yes yes yes.

I’ve done this for years and I’ve told you about it for years. It makes things taste very much like a burger, without tasting like either ketchup or mustard. It’s the key when making cheeseburger-inspired recipes.

The other deal? Puff pastry pizzas are one of my THINGS. They are so easy and especially perfect for a weeknight. The crust reminds me of one of our favorite local pizzas – flakey and delicate but can still hold just the right amount of toppings.

In Everyday Dinners, I have multiple puff pastry pizzas! And here on the blog, I’ve shared tons of recipes too – like this hot honey pickle puff pastry pizza.

This is perfect for a quick weekend snack or an easy weeknight dinner. It tastes like two of our favorite things: cheeseburgers and pizza, and who doesn’t love that?!

Lots of texture, flavor, and drizzled in my house sauce. YUM.

You will want to eat that with a spoon!

The crust covered in sesame seeds is everything too!

  • ½ pound lean ground beef
  • kosher salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 3 tablespoons house sauce, plus more for drizzling
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed if frozen
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated
  • 1 large egg + 1 teaspoon water, beaten together for egg wash
  • 1 to 2 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • shredded lettuce, for topping
  • chopped tomatoes, for topping
  • chopped pickles, for topping
  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef. Season all over with salt and pepper. Brown the beef, breaking it apart into small crumbles. Stir in the ketchup and mustard until combined. Turn off the heat and add in a sprinkle of cheese – just an ounce or two.

  • Place a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet.

  • Lay the sheet of puff pastry on the parchment. Poke it all over with a fork – this helps it to stop bubbling up.

  • Spread the 3 tablespoons of the house sauce on the puff pastry, leaving a border for the crust. Sprinkle on a little bit of cheese. Evenly layer the ground beef on next. Drizzle with more house sauce.

  • Top with the remaining cheese. Brush the outside border with the egg wash. Sprinkle the border with the sesame seeds.

  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the puff pastry is golden and puffed up. Remove and cover with shredded lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. Slice and serve!
