WESTFIELD, NJ — A firm was hired by Westfield for $94,500 to come up with a design plan to update Tamaques Park.
The Town Council approved the contract at its Oct. 22 meeting to Dresdner Robin in Fairfield.
“We are embarking on a bit of a process to look into upgrading Tamaques Park and ways to do it,” said Councilman David Kiefer.
Keifer noted that Dresdner Robin was selected out of five firms who presented.
“I’m really excited about them. They get it. They understand the process they are signing up for. They have built in adequate time in their schedule to hear from the public repeatedly and get the feedback. They are coming in with ideas but not preconceived notions. They also said they want to approach a ‘light touch’ to the park to appreciate its natural beauty, which I appreciated,” said Kiefer.
The design and update to the park is a “long process.”
Kiefer said the design phase will take around 8 months to complete before going out to bid and construction.
“Don’t expect anything to happen soon but it is underway,” said Kiefer.
Tamaques Park is a 106 acre park on Lamberts Mill Road, featuring 18 picnic areas, 2 basketball courts, 8 tennis courts, 3 pickleball courts, shuffleboard courts, 6 playing fields, 2 playgrounds, a pond, a .8 mile jogging path, 2 handball courts and 1 service building with restrooms.
