Chinese companies are making advances in driverless car technology.

In China, they issued 16,000 licenses to test autonomous vehicles on many roads. Big companies like Baidu and WeRide tested their cars in California and got valuable data to improve their technology. But in 2024, the US proposed a ban on Chinese and Russian AVs because of security. These driverless cars collect lots of information, such as places people go and even images of their surroundings. Some people worry that China could use this information somehow.

In the US, safety comes first in testing driverless cars, but in China, it is not like that because China wants to become a leader in AV technology. The future of Chinese companies testing in the US is unclear because both countries work to balance development and safety.
