20 African tech ventures to pitch at Angel Fair Africa in Nairobi – Disrupt Africa

Twenty African tech ventures – 10 startups and 10 scale-ups – have been selected to pitch at the Angel Fair Africa event in Nairobi, Kenya on November 7-8.

Held for the first time in September 2013, Angel Fair Africa has been held in Johannesburg, Lagos, Accra, Nairobi, Abidjan, Maputo, Dar es Salaam, Mauritius, and, last year, in Cape Town.

Hosted by Chanzo Capital, in partnership with Startupbootcamp AfriTech, MEST Africa, Antler, iHub and GrowthAfrica, the event this year returns to Nairobi for the first time since 2016 and will see 10 startups and 10 scale-ups pitch to investors at the Two Rivers International Finance and Innovation Centre.

The first day of the event is dedicated to startups that are getting off the ground with a need for angel, pre-seed and seed capital.

Three of the selected startups are Kenyan – VunaPay, NoMa and Zopa254. There are two each from Ghana – BenBen and Lastmal – and South Africa – Ejoobi and Hitherroad, while the list is completed by Uganda’s Karaa, Mozambique’s Goodbite and Nigeria’s Wenzo.

The second day, meanwhile, is focused on scale-ups, which are expanding their operations and need seed, Series A and Series B capital.

This time, Kenya has five representatives, namely Check-Ups Med, Chumz, Save App, EpiCenter Africa and Twiva. The rest of the cohort comprises two Ivory Coast-based ventures – MojaRide and DigiTech – as well as Ghana’s PayAngel, Tanzania’s KilimoFresh and Nigeria’s HouseAfrica.

All 20 startups and scale-ups have already gone through one of the programmes run by Angel Fair Africa partners such as iHub, MEST Africa, and Startupbootcamp AfriTech, which pre-screen and prepare these ventures.
