Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappé has reportedly agreed to a contract to join Real Madrid once his deal with the French club expires in June.

According to BBC Sport’s Guillem Balague, Mbappé has yet to sign the Real Madrid contract but the deal will pay him €15 million ($16 million) per season over five years, plus a €150 million ($161 million) signing bonus. He will reportedly also get to keep a percentage of his image rights.

The 25-year-old France international has spent the past seven seasons at PSG, establishing himself as the club’s all-time leading scorer with 244 goals across all competitions.

The move from PSG to Madrid has been expected since last summer when world football insider Fabrizio Romano reported that Mbappé planned to decline his player option for the 2024-25 season with PSG in order to become a free agent.

Although Mbappé has yet to officially sign a contract with the Spanish giants, Balague noted that the deal could be announced as soon as it is no longer possible for PSG and Madrid to face each other in this season’s UEFA Champions League.

Balague also reported that Mbappé met with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi last week to inform him of his decision to leave for the Spanish capital.

After a breakout 2016-17 season at AS Monaco in which he scored 26 goals, Mbappé was loaned to PSG, and he eventually signed a full-time deal with them and blossomed into one of the best players in the world.

He has 32 goals in 31 matches for PSG this season, giving him six consecutive seasons with 30 or more goals scored.

During his time with the French club, Les Parisiens won five Ligue 1 titles, and they are on their way to a sixth, as they lead Brest by 13 points this season.

In addition to his success at PSG, Mbappé has dominated on the international stage, helping France win the FIFA World Cup in 2018 en route to being named best young player of the tournament.

Then, at the 2022 World Cup, Les Bleus finished as the runner-up to Argentina, and Mbappé won both the Golden Boot and Silver Ball.

In Real Madrid, Mbappé is set to join a club that currently leads La Liga by six points over Girona.

Los Blancos have won 35 La Liga titles and 14 European Cup/UEFA Champions League titles during their history, both of which are records.

Adding Mbappé is a case of the rich getting richer, but it should come as no surprise, as Real Madrid offer him perhaps the best opportunity to vie for top trophies on a consistent basis.

Also, La Liga was the home base for many years for two of the greatest players of all time in Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. With both of them now playing elsewhere, Mbappé can establish himself as the face of the league.
