What are some books that made you want to uproot your life and live/work the way the protagonist lives/works?

Hi, so i’ve recently begun The Bear (tv). As stressful as it is, this show’s focus on the mechanics of cooking has caused many a daydream about leaving my paltry life behind to become a chef, to say things like “behind”, and “corner”.

I’ve also recently begun reading Bad Foundations by Brian Allen Carr (published by one of my fav publishers: CLASH), and now this fuckin’ thing has me imagining leaving my life behind to become a grizzled crawlspace inspector. Dirty job, i know. But it’s hilarious, and warm, and informative. The way the book teaches you so much about the ins and outs of crawlspace inspecting while spinning these interesting coworkers and work-group-chat-logs effectively gives you a feeling of understanding what it would be like to work in that field.

What i want is more of that. More books that make me daydream about uprooting and changing occupations. Books that focus on a job/workplace in a similar way. Can you think of any that did the same to you?
