Which TV friendships are more iconic than the show’s main romance?

On Buffy, I feel like the relationship between Buffy and Giles for the first five seasons (until Giles abandoned her) was more engaging and interesting and had more depth than any of her romances.

He is essentially her father and beginning as the rigid, devout tutor for the Watcher’s Council, her relationship with him helped in his growth and vice versa.

They had a very realistic relationship built on trust, honesty, emotional support and respect and a level of protectiveness and were probably my favorite relationship between characters on my favorite show.
