Not just in romance books but in any kind of genre. I know my question isn’t very specific but I’m genuinely curious. Do you like tropes? Where do you draw the line between romantic and cheesy? What does a romance need to make you feel engaged on an emotional level?
Personally, I love a good slow burn. I don’t want the characters to go from hating each other to sleeping together within 20 pages and then be happy until the inevitable third act break-up. I want uncertainty and pining and an emotional connection that goes beyond two attractive people finding each other hot. I think that’s probably why I enjoyed the romance plot in Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone trilogy so much (no spoilers).
