Typhoon Trami fails to dampen brisk business at Hong Kong Wine and Dine Festival

Typhoon Trami has failed to dampen spirits at the Hong Kong Wine and Dine Festival, with some vendors recording double or triple-digit revenue growth compared with last year’s event.

Vendors told the Post on Sunday, the last day of the event, that the heavy rains brought on by the storm a day earlier had not dissuaded patrons and noted a rise in the number of tourists at the festival.

Conte Chung Nam-kwok, CEO of Maple International Enterprise, said business at its wine-selling booth was up as much as 200 per cent from last year.

He added that while his company had lost money when the event returned to the Central harbourfront for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic, his team this time around had barely stopped for dinner due to the brisk business.

Chung said he had also noticed an uptick in the number of foreign visitors to the festival, estimating they had made up about 30 per cent of those stopping by his booth.

“I’m so satisfied with these past few nights,” he said.
