The management of Palawan Electric Cooperative expressed concern over the proliferation of unauthorized Facebook accounts, pages, and groups using their official logo and seal without permission. The power cooperative said Saturday that these accounts are spreading false and defamatory information to the public.
Of particular concern, according to the Palawan Electric Cooperative (PALECO), are reports of misled consumers attempting to relay urgent information regarding areas needing immediate assistance, only to find that the administrators of these fake accounts are unresponsive and uncooperative.
This disregard for genuine concerns, PALECO says, illustrates a lack of care for fellow consumers and a clear intent to disrupt rather than assist.
“Lalong nakababagabag na may nabibiktima nang mga consumer na nagpaparating ng mga mahahalang impormasyon, tulad ng mga lugar na nangangailangan ng saklolo. Subalit ni hindi tumutulong ang mga may-ari ng mga nasabing pekeng account ang mga concern sa PALECO. Malinaw na wala silang malasakit sa mga kapwa consumer at tanging panggugulo at hindi pagtulong ang kanilang layunin,” PALECO management stated.
In light of these incidents, PALECO is reminding the public to be vigilant and cautious when reading information on social media, particularly regarding the source.
“Kaya’t muli naming binibigyang-diin ang aming paalala na maging mapanuri at mag ingat sa mga impormasyong nababasa sa social media lalo sa pinagmulan nito,” PALECO said, underscoring that official updates and responses from the cooperative are only accessible through its verified pages.
