Wood leads Haaland in unique attacking stat as Nottingham Forest run continues

Chris Wood has continued his incredible start to the Premier League season with a double in a 3-1 win over Leicester.

The Nottingham Forest striker was on fire for his side at Leicester City on Friday night, netting a second-half brace inside 13 minutes.

Wood, along with Forest captain Ryan Yates, was at the forefront of his side earning their fourth victory in the Premier League this season.

Only Cole Palmer and Erling Haaland have scored more goals than Wood since Nuno Espírito Santo took over at Forest.

“It’s consistency with what Nuno’s been working on. We got better and better last season but we also conceded poor goals at times,” Wood said, speaking to Sky Sports.

“I think consistency is the biggest thing. I wouldn’t say it fuelled us, we conceded a lot of set-piece goals and we worked at that and we’ve got to keep going.”

Espírito Santo’s side now hold Forest’s longest unbeaten away streak in the English top-flight since 1995.

They have also won back-to-back top-flight games for the first time since December 2023 and sit fifth in the Premier League table, which is their highest-ever league position of the century.

Having played one extra game than those around them, Forest are only one point behind Arsenal and Aston Villa.

Wood has scored exactly 60% of Forest’s goals in the Premier League this season, having bagged seven of his side’s 11.

Only Liam Delap of Ipswich Town (66.7%) has contributed more individual team goals than Forest’s number 11.

Haaland has scored just over half (52.6%) of Manchester City’s goals this season with Bryan Mbuemo (42.9%) and Jean-Philippe Mateta (40%) also high on the list.

Wood was also asked by Sky Sports about Haaland and the role of being a ‘big centre forward’.

“We want to try to bring it back or I’ll be out of a job!” he said. “For a period of time, the small centre forward with a lot of pace was used but thankfully Erling has brought it back.”

Newcastle United fan urges club to hire Jose Mourinho to REPLACE Eddie Howe

“I just want to keep scoring as many as I can. He’s [Haaland] a very formidable man and he’s probably going to score 30 goals this season. He’s a very formidable man to chase.

“He’s [Nuno Espirito Santo] come in and put an emphasis on putting the ball in the box. He’s worked on that in the training pitch.”

Leicester fans were left booing their side at The King Power stadium as they remained in 14th position with nine points from nine games.

Forest fans certainly made the most of the victory over former manager Steve Cooper’s side, as they chanted his name at full-time.
