The Minister of Defence, Mohammad Badaru, on Friday urged troops combating banditry in the Northwest to intensify their efforts to secure roads for motorists.
Addressing the soldiers stationed at Gurbin Baure, a border area between Katsina and Zamfara States, he assured them of the Federal Government’s commitment to their welfare and equipment needs.
During his official visit to assess security deployments along the frequently attacked Zaria-Gusau, Gusau-Jibia, and Katsina roads, Badaru expressed optimism that progress is being made in the fight against banditry.
He called for greater public support to strengthen the ongoing campaign.
“The progress we are recording indicates that the troops have the capacity and determination to end this menace,” Badaru said.
He noted that cooperation from all states is vital to the effort, highlighting the importance of community involvement.

“I travelled by road to assess our deployment in the area. The Zaria-Gusau road has been notorious for kidnappers, but we have improved our strategy and deployment there. I’m impressed with the ongoing efforts to curb attacks on motorists,” he added.
The minister also visited the Air Component of Operation Fansar Yamma at Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport in Katsina, instructing them to assert control of the airspace and eliminate criminal elements. “End insecurity now! Do you hear?” he declared.
Accompanied by Major General Oluyinka Soyele, Commander of the Joint Taskforce Northwest Operation Fansar Yamma, Badaru was welcomed by Brigadier General BO Omopariola, Commander of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, and other senior military officials.
