LTO orders key personnel to stay present, aid in relief ops post-‘Kristine’ – Manila Standard

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) ordered the cancellation of leaves of absence of all law enforcement officers in order to maximize the assistance for the smooth flow of relief operations in Luzon and Visayas in the aftermath of severe tropical storm ‘Kristine.’

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said the order is in compliance with the directives of President Marcos to ensure continuous and efficient delivery of aid to areas severely affected by the weather disturbance.

“In line with this directive and upon instructions of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, all leaves of enforcers and key regional and district officers in storm affected areas in Luzon and the Visayas, are hereby cancelled until further instructions,” he said.

“Their presence is crucial in maintaining order and assisting in the smooth flow of aid and relief operations,” Mendoza added.

The Chief Executive earlier issued an urgent directive to all government agencies to extend assistance to the typhoon victims. Among the worst-hit areas are the Bicol region, Cavite, Laguna and Batangas.

Rescue boats and other equipment, along with search and rescue teams, were already committed to be sent to the affected provinces, especially those which are still flooded.

“As part of this response, the role of our law enforcement officers is crucial to ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of motorists and commuters in the affected regions,” Mendoza said.

The LTO chief tasked key officers in Luzon and Visayas to remain visible in their areas of responsibility and provide assistance to motorists, commuters and stranded passengers affected by the disaster.

They were also instructed to “be prepared to mobilize tow trucks and other necessary equipment to aid in clearing roadways and ensuring access for emergency vehicles and relief operations.”

The cooperation and dedication of all LTO personnel are crucial in this time of national emergency to ensure public safety and the swift delivery of humanitarian aid.
