Cillian Flaherty, 15, Ireland’s Fittest Family contestant,  to be laid to rest

Funeral details have been announced for the young teenager who competed in RTÉ’s Ireland’s Fittest Family.

He was from the Blakestown area, near Blanchardstown Shopping Centre in Dublin, and was part of a family who were heavily involved in sport and fitness.

Cillian was a third-year student at Blakestown Community School in west Dublin.

In a death notice on Rip.ie, the 15-year-old is remembered as the “precious son of Paula and Paul, dear brother of Kian and Heidi” and a cherished grandson who will be sadly missed by his family, neighbours, and a “large group of good mates.”

His body will be reposing at his home on both Thursday and Friday evenings from 5pm to 8pm.

A procession will then leave his home at 10.30am on Saturday morning to the Church of St. Philip the Apostle, Mountview.

The requiem mass will then take place at 11am followed by burial in Mulhuddart Cemetry.

Those attending Cillian’s funeral are being requested to wear bright colours, incorporating sky blue if possible.

His funeral mass can also be viewed online here on Saturday.

The first episode of the new season of Ireland’s Fittest Family on RTÉ has since been postponed following the teenager’s death.

The TV show was due to return to RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player this Sunday evening.

In a statement, RTÉ said the decision to postpone followed the death of a person who had taken part in the series “subsequent” to the completion of filming.

“RTÉ and Kite/Animo productions wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and friends at this time,” the broadcaster said. “Further details regarding the broadcast of the series will be provided in due course.”
