Progreso, Yucatán. Claudia Sheinbaum, president of Mexico, announced the construction of a deep-sea port in Progreso, Yucatán to receive large ships with a cargo capacity.
Together with the governor of Yucatán Joaquín Díaz Mena, when leading a meeting in the municipality of Progreso on Welfare programs, the president announced that the deep-sea port will be ready in three years and work will begin in 2024.
The governor of Yucatán pointed out that the modernization of Puerto Progreso will consolidate a well-being center on the peninsula. He also reaffirmed the relevance of the project so that “Yucatan attracts investments, that it generates better-paid jobs.”
The officials arrived at the Progreso Sports Complex along with President Claudia Sheinbaum who was accompanied by eight of her secretaries of state, including Admiral Raymundo Morales, who stressed that Puerto Progreso needs to increase its capacity to meet the needs of Yucatan and the peninsula.
