Samsung has a new variant of its large foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition (SE), but for now, it’s only coming to Korea.
Thinner, Lighter, Bigger
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 was the thinnest Z Fold until now. That honorific now belongs to the newly announced Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which is 1.5mm (0.06 inches) thinner and also 3 grams (0.11 ounces) lighter than the Z Fold 6.
For context, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 measures 6.04 by 2.68 by 0.48 inches (HWD) when closed, spans 6.04 by 5.22 by 0.22 inches when open, and weighs 8.43 ounces. The Z Fold 6 SE is reportedly 6.22 by 2.87 by 0.42 inches when closed and 6.22 by 5.61 by 0.19 inches when open.

So, while it is thinner and lighter, the Special Edition is taller and wider than the regular Z Fold 6 with a larger cover and internal screen. The SE features a 6.5-inch external display, up from the 6.3-inch front screen of the Z Fold 6, while the inner screen is now a massive 8 inches, up from the 7.6 inches found in the regular foldable.
Apart from the size differences, the Z Fold 6 SE is visually distinct with its striped black pattern (its only color/finish) and rectangular camera bump instead of the pill shape of the Z Fold 6.
Internally, the Z Fold 6 SE is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy (the same as the Z Fold 6) and 16GB of RAM, a big 4GB boost from the Z Fold 6, which maxes out at 12GB. The official Samsung press release does not go into details on a number of things including durability, storage options, S Pen compatibility, or maximum charging rates.
A New Camera

Samsung equips the Z Fold 6 SE with a 200MP main camera putting it on par with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, though details on the SE’s camera are sparse. The regular Z Fold 6 features a 50MP f/1.8 main camera, which we found to take excellent photos. If the new sensor is the same as the S24 Ultra, this would improve the Z Fold’s camera quality quite a bit, as we found the S24 Ultra’s main camera pictures outstanding and on par with Apple and Google.

Details to Come
For those of you wondering, “Why does this device exist?,” the translated press release offers an answer. In a statement attributed to Sung-Taek Lim, executive VP of Samsung Electronics Korea, Samsung is offering this product “in Korea as a gesture to domestic consumers leading the foldable market.” There is no mention of launching the Z Fold 6 SE outside of Samsung’s home country. Perhaps this is a preview of what a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be, though its release is not expected until mid-2025.
A lot about the new Z Fold 6 SE is unknown, and we reached out to Samsung for more details. But we’ll learn more when sales begin on Oct. 25 through its site and local carriers, starting at 2,789,600 won (or about $2,024 USD).
The company is also bundling discounts with purchases on several accessories like the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, Galaxy Ring, and Galaxy Watch Ultra until the end of the year.
