The Nasreddine Nabi era at Kaizer Chiefs is underway and they’re even eyeing up silverware. How close was Pitso Mosimane to joining?

Pitso’s spell in Saudi ended on a sour note

After having his Al Wahda contract ripped up after just 10 games, Pitso focused on family during Christmas 2023. He also discussed his short-term ambitions at the tail-end of what was an eventful year for Jingles. In 2024, he took up a short-term role with Abha Club in Saudi Arabia but they were relegated at the end of the 2023-2024 campaign.

“To be honest, there is interest in me now and in a totally different space that you and I could ever think of – Asia, not the Gulf,” he stated.

“So there has been interest. And there’s been an interesting one also from North America. And why not? Why not go to North America, why not go to Japan, China, those places, because for us, it is also our legacy.

“So if you can get a project that’s interesting in the Gulf, just for example, and a similar project in Asia, probably I would go to Asia, just to go see.

“But on that one, national teams, I don’t have a problem to be back in the continent, but club-wise no.”

The Nasreddine Nabi era is underway

Joining him is his new Burundian assistant Cedric Kaze. The pair know each other well after working together for Yanga SC. Kaze is the former Burundi National Team coach and has worked with the U17s, U20s and U23s, as well as spending over two years with FC Barcelona’s youth sides. He advocates a meticulous approach to planning, analysis and tactics. He’s also fluent in six languages, namely French, Kirundi, Kiswahili, English, German, and Spanish.

Amakhosi knew they were getting a seeded opponent and got the most difficult task on paper. However, if they can get past the Brazilians they’ll quietly fancy their chances of going all the way. Here’s the full draw with the holders Stellenbosch travelling to Limpopo to face Marumo Gallants.
