Independent investigators have been called in to look into a fatal crash after an attempted traffic stop by Victoria police.
At about 1 a.m. Saturday, officers tried to stop a Nissan Titan pickup in the 900-block of Douglas Street, near Courtney Street, that was reported to be driving erratically.
The driver didn’t stop and was involved in a crash with another vehicle and a B.C. Transit bus near the intersection of Douglas and Humboldt Street. The bus was not in service and there were no passengers.

Victoria police notified the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO), which probes all police incidents that lead to serious injury or death. It will look at the circumstances leading up to the fatal collision and whether police action or inaction played a role.
The IIO is asking anyone with information about or video of the incident to call the witness line at 1-855-446-8477 or use the contact form at iiobc.ca.
