A big drought is happening in southern Africa. Millions of people have no food.
Five countries – Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe – are in trouble. No rain means that crops and animals are dying. Angola and Mozambique also have problems.
The UN’s World Food Programme is giving food and cash to people. But it needs much more money. The UN says that 27 million people are hungry. 21 million children are not getting enough food. The drought will continue until March or April 2025. People will have new crops then. El Niño makes some places too dry. It is not possible to stop it. The UN needs 369 million dollars to help people in South Africa.
Difficult words: drought (long time with no rain), crops (plants we grow for food), continue (to keep going or existing).
