Project Concept and Large Quantity of Images

I’m hoping someone can offer some guidance as I move onto my next personal project. I’m wanting to extract text from a game map. In order to see the text, I have to click onto a “plot”. Then, I can take a screenshot. I’ve got all that worked out, but my concerns are:

A – There are going to be ~ 1 million screenshots.
B – I’ve tried using pytesseract on a small sample of screenshots, to see if it will give me the text I would expect to see. It doesn’t…not even close. However, the Snipping Tool’s built in OCR feature seems to do really well, just not in a great format.

My immediate questions are, is there a way for Python to read text straight off a screen w/o having to take a screenshot? My research doesn’t show there is, but I may have missed something.

With the quantity of images I’ll be working with, is there a better route to go?
