You can now buy Tesla’s Cybertruck directly for the first time, without putting down a $250 deposit and waiting for an email invite.
This is because Tesla has now worked through its entire waiting list for the Cybertruck. The waiting list may even have topped one million, and later two million, if a crowdsourced spreadsheet put together by the Tesla community is accurate.
Tesla’s “Design your Cybertruck” page lists availability for November, with no mention of reservations, meaning you could own one in less than a month if you order now.
However, though Tesla has worked its way through a massive backlog of reservations, this doesn’t mean that you should expect your streets to be flooded with Cybertrucks any time soon.
According to quarterly US EV sales data, Tesla has only delivered close to 25,000 Cybertrucks since they first went on sale in November 2023.
This makes the cyber truck the 3rd best-selling electric vehicle in the U.S., behind its Tesla stablemates the Model Y crossover and Model 3 sedan, according to statistics from automotive research firm Cox Automotive data.
However, electric vehicle publication Electrek points out this means that under 3% of these reservations have converted to sales so far, if one million people did pre-order a cybertruck.
It’s unknown exactly why a relatively small number of reservations have converted to sales so far.
Electrek thinks it may be because the original sale price was so much higher than when Tesla first started taking reservations for the electric pickup truck.
The first available Cybertrucks retailed at a bare minimum of $100,00, well over double the $40,000 Musk originally promised EV buyers during the unveiling in 2019.

An analyst at Electrek theorized some consumers may be put off the cybertruck due to its closer associations with CEO Elon Musk’s controversial personality and political leanings than other Tesla models like the Model 3 sedan.
Several well-publicized technical mishaps have also affected the Cybertruck since reservations were first announced.
The Cybertruck has had five recalls in 2024 alone, including issues with its rearview camera, warning lights, accelerator pedal, front windshield wiper, and trunk bed trim.
Meanwhile, regulators at the US Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are investigating Tesla’s Autopilot safety fix, with the filing noting that 20 fires and crashes have been associated with the self-driving feature so far.
